It’s the Holidays! Eat up and enjoy while you can. NOT! With all the holidays and parties and good food we all put on a little more weight than we should. So to help us get those few pounds off starting the first week of January the BCES will host its 2nd Annual Biggest Loser Contest! You can join in and have some friendly competition while losing weight over an 8 weeks period by signing up to participate. Below are the official guidelines/rules.

The Wildcats began their season with no returning players from the previous year. As the members practiced together, their play began to improve and the team concept develop. Upon conclusion of the South Georgia Youth Football League season we found ourselves in 2nd place. After regular league play ended, the Wildcat’s season was far from over. They continued to practice several times a week to hone their skills in preparation of the upcoming Georgia Recreations and Parks Association playoffs. Players also participated in several post season contests. They traveled to Garden City to participate in the 49th Annual Rebel Bowl and also to Effingham County to participate in the 14th annual George A. Ulmer Cracker Bowl.


150th Anniversary of the Siege at Fort McAllister and Winter Muster

Many joined the troops at Fort McAllister on December 13, 2014 as they reenacted the taking of the fort by Union forces and General William T. Sherman on that day 150 years ago. The fort, known as the “Guardian of Savannah,” was attacked seven times by Union ironclads before Sherman sent troops to take the fort by land, where they outnumbered the Confederates 25 to 1. This significant Civil War battle marked the end of Sherman’s March to the Sea in 1864. Skirmishes, drills and living history programs were held throughout the day and the final assault reenactment took place at 5 p.m.

The Richmond Hill Garden Club has awarded the December Yard of the Month to Sandy and Austin Andersen who live at 500 Greenwich in Richmond Heights Subdivision. Two Cleveland pears frame the Andersen’s yard, and blooming sasanqua camellias brighten the front, their lovely pink color still attracting cloudless sulphur and gulf fritillary butterflies. Encore azaleas and a Japanese maple add to the front planting bed. A fountain and a conch shell collection from St. Simon’s Island complement the front planting, where irises will soon make their appearance.


PawParazzi Raisers $1,000 at Pet Photos with Santa

Last week’s Pet Photos with Santa fundraiser at PawParazzi attracted 43 fur baby families and raised $1,000 towards the purchase of equipment for Bryan County Animal Control.

Richmond Hill, Ga. – Ursula Lee, Richmond Hill city clerk, recently celebrated 28 years of employment with the City. Lee began her work in 1986 as a receptionist/senior clerk, and was promoted to assistant city clerk before becoming city clerk in 1997.

The City Council of Richmond Hill broke ground this afternoon on the city’s sidewalk project, a system of sidewalks connecting neighborhoods to schools, parks and retail establishments. The project came about as a result of a needs assessment completed earlier this year, which identified the areas with a “gap in service” related to the provision of sidewalks and pedestrian connectivity to critical destinations in the city.

The 15th Annual Santa Scramble Golf Tournament, benefiting the Bryan County Children's fund, was held on Friday, November 7, 2014. The tournament raised nearly $18,000. Wendy Sims from Bryan County Family Connection was on hand for the check presentation after the tournament. The food was provided by Smokin' Pig.

This self-guided tour will take you through historic buildings such as the Henry Ford Kindergarten building, and St. Anne Catholic Church, formerly the Martha-Mary Chapel built by Henry Ford, as well as several beautiful low country, southern homes. Guests will also enjoy a holiday tea at the historic church. Proceeds benefit the Richmond Hill Friends of the Library, Garden Club, Historical Society, Arts on the Coast and St. Anne Council of Catholic Women.


Richmond Hill City Council Unanimously Approves New Logo

Richmond Hill, Ga. – The Richmond Hill City Council recently and unanimously approved a new logo for the City. The design, modeled after the Ogeechee River's recognizable seven-mile bend, is the first one since 1987 and will become effective immediately.
