Grounding Breaking of WaterWays Township Fire Station

The Bryan County EMS broke ground on fire station No. 10 for Bryan County Fire Department at WaterWays Township in Richmond Hill, Georgia. This facility is being provided by the community of WaterWays Township, including the site and a financial commitment that will pay for the building and a large firetruck. The facility is expected to be operational in Fall 2013.

Garden Club Enjoys Luncheon and Installs Officers

The members of the Richmond Hill Garden Club recently celebrated with their Annual Luncheon recently in style, while installing next year’s club’s officers. The luncheon, held at Richmond Hill’s City Center, had a summer beach theme, and included nautical-themed table decorations. Many of the ladies wore decorative hats, which added an element of fun to the event.

SBCR Little League Tournament

State Little League Baseball Tournament Comes to Richmond Hill

The South Bryan County Recreation Department and Coastal Little League are sponsoring the 11/12 year old State Little League Baseball Tournament in Richmond Hill this July. We will be bringing 120 families to Richmond Hill from all over the State of Georgia. They will be “living” with us for a week. We would like the community to open their doors to them and show them our southern hospitality!

Camp Buddy Summer Camp

Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society to hold Camp Buddy Summer Camps

The Lowcountry Down Syndrome Society (LDSS) to hold Camp Buddy Summer Camps. These educational, therapeutic and fun camps run over two weeks in Chatham and Effingham counties this summer.

Effingham Camp Buddy begins on Monday, June 17 and continues through June 21, 2013 at the First Baptist Church of Springfield. For children aged 3 and over, Effingham Camp Buddy runs from 9 am – 1 pm and for those under 3, the camp runs 8:30 – 9:15 am daily. Chatham Camp Buddy is July 8th, 10th, 12th AND July 15th, 17th and 19th at Marshpoint Elementary School. For children aged 3-6 Chatham Camp Buddy runs from 9 am – 12:30 pm and for those over 6 years of age, it runs from 1- 4 pm.

Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill

LIVE had the opportunity to stop by First Baptist Church of Richmond Hill during their Vacation Bible School this week! Their theme this year is “Colossal Coaster World: Facing Our Fears by Trusting God”. With 270 children registered and 177 volunteers, VBS has been a fun and successful event so far this week!

Richmond Hill’s local running company, Georgia Game Changers is sponsoring a FREE Flag Day Father & Family Fun Run 5K at JF Gregory Park on June 14th, Flag Day at 6:30 pm.

CEO Sandra Elliott wanted to have an event that encourages fathers and their families to get out the door and get fit together, as a family.

Coastal Empire Kingfish Classic Held in Richmond Hill

The 2013 Coastal Empire Kingfish Classic Tournament was held on Saturday, June 1st at Fort McAllister Marina in Richmond Hill, Georgia. With a total of 53 boat entries, the tournament was a huge success and a great fishing day for our anglers!

Congratulations to Team To-Da-Hub who brought home the 1st Place Prize of $10,000. The 1st Place Prize for “23 Foot & Under Boat” went to Team Hot Spot, which was a 14 foot Alumacraft boat with a 15hp Yamaha. The remainder of the prizes were based on the amount of entries.

Rotary Club Announces Approaching Deadline for $3,000 Scholarship Fund

The Rotary Club of Richmond Hill is reminding local high school students of its May 24th deadline for applications for two scholarships worth $3,000.

The first college scholarship is worth $2,000 and was established in memory of Jay D. Gardner who was a Charter Member of the Rotary Club of Richmond Hill as well as a Lawyer, Judge and State Legislator. The second, the ‘Mary Bean Memorial Technical College Scholarship’ is worth $1,000 and honors the memory of this local business woman, wife and mother who was a living example of the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self”.

Health & Fitness Expo

Richmond Hill Farmer’s Market Hosted Health & Fitness Expo

The Richmond Hill Farmer’s Market had a special market this week. The market hosted a Health & Fitness Expo on Tuesday, May 7th at J.F. Gregory Park.

In addition to 45 regular market vendors, the market had 15-20 fitness vendors. The Expo was set up outside the pavilion. Many stopped by to learn about the local health and fitness businesses in Richmond Hill. The businesses were very pleased with the turnout! In addition to all of the great vendors, 92.3 Country Classic was broadcasting live and the Richmond Hill High School Band performed at 7:00 PM. What a great market!
