RICHMOND HILL, GA – August 31st 2014 Twenty-five members of the Richmond Hill High School Interact Club along with adviser, Adam Balduff, and members of the Bark Park board spent the Saturday of Labor Day weekend helping to ensure that our community's dog park opens in October 2014. The Interact Club is an outreach of The Richmond Hill Rotary Club who recently gave a grant towards the building of the handicapped access sidewalk at the park.

Unity in the Community founders, Craig and Sharon Butts, met with Richmond Hill City Council Member, Johnny Murphy, last week. During the meeting, Murphy discussed future plans for Richmond Hill such as the addition of sidewalks to help handicapped residents gain more mobility for the people of Richmond Hill Plantation Apartments and Lake View Plantation Apartments. The issue of the need for employment opportunities, within Richmond Hill, for our residents was also discussed.

Many of you have probably seen the "Ice Bucket Challenge" rage that has circulated the social media lately. ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Approximately 5,600 people in the U.S. are diagnosed with ALS each year. The incidence of ALS is two per 100,000 people, and it is estimated that as many as 30,000 Americans may have the disease at any given time. ALS can strike anyone. The cause of ALS is unknown and there is still no cure but in recent years there has been a tremendous amount of new scientific understanding about the disease. This can be credited to the fact that communities are reaching out and wanting answers.
